Afternoon Hike at the Lodge

A Starry Saturday Night at the Lodge

Join us at the Chief Logan Lodge fire pit to look through a computerized telescope at various celestial bodies including the moon, planets, galaxies and more.  Learn seasonal constellations and other cool facts about the night sky.  Mars, Jupiter and Saturn will be visible if the sky is clear.  Geminids meteor shower will be active; this is the best meteor shower of the year at around 100 meteors per hour!  In case of rain, this activity is cancelled.

Sunday Morning Beginner’s Hike

If you are considering hiking, paced walks or would like to be more active; this is the hike for you. Join Naturalist Lauren Cole for this beginners hike to get started on the right foot! Learn basic hiking, outdoor safety and Leave No Trace principles. This is an easy hike on the gas well road. It’s approximately one mile and suitable for all ages. Tour the Steam Engine at Chief Logan State Park

Tours of the C&O #2755, an authentic steam engine, finds Naturalist Lauren Cole greeting visitors to view the locomotive. Walking up and down a flight of stairs is required. Tours will be small, groups of 10 or less and will occur every 15 to 30 minutes. Participation requires wearing a mask and observing social distancing. Departing from the Chief Logan park office/Museum-in-the-Park, the wintry walk begins at 10:00 a.m. on the Woodpecker Trail. This hike is approximately 3 miles.
