Matewan is the 1987 film written and directed by John Sayles and starring Chris Cooper (in his film debut), James Earl Jones, Mary McDonnell, Will Oldham and David Strathairn. The film dramatizes the events of the Battle of Matewan, which led to the Battle of Blair Mountain in 1921.
